We have more resources at our disposal than almost any other caregivers I know of, and I’m still exhausted. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to do this without help.

Limited Entertainment Options

It was cold in Fairbanks this weekend. Really cold. The kind of cold that people Outside probably can’t even comprehend. Yesterday started at 51 below Fahrenheit , and warmed all the way up -41 before nose diving again.

See? That’s us ‘chilling’ at #5 on the list of coldest inhabited places on the earth right now. And when the temps plummet, Fairbanks’ already limited entertainment options dwindle. No snow machining, no skiing, no skijouring, no long walks on the tundra. Really, once the temps drop to -50, there are only three things we like to do:

Get undressed in front of the UAF sign
Throw hot water into the air
Cry out for sympathy on Facebook

The sign is miles from me (and ice-fog driving is no fun), so with my Facebook whining duties complete, I chose option 2: throw hot water into the air and watch it turn into a frozen cloud.

Kennicott Mine Photo Dump

Last September, I took a trip with my friend Jason down to McCarthy, Alaska, to photograph the Kennicott mine and surrounding areas. It was a fun trip, but it happened in the middle of a really hectic season for me, and after I got back home the images languished in my Lightroom library.

Things haven’t become any less hectic–in fact, things are getting busier every day–but I finally took some time to browse through Lightroom and see what I got.

A chilly walk around Fairbanks

Last friday I took a walk around Fairbanks in an attempt to cure my cabin fever. It was about 20 below–not too cold. I took my GF1 and a 14mm lens, as well as an old Nikon with some film that expired 40 years ago. I’m still deciding how I’ll develop that film, but here are a few of the digital snapshots.
